Samuel R. Harris (born Szlamek Rzeznik), of the Rotary Club of Northbrook, Illinois, USA, is a survivor of the Holocaust. He is President Emeritus of the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center.GLENVIEW – State Senator Laura Fine (D-Glenview) issued the following statement on the passing of Illinois Holocaust Museum President Emeritus Samuel Harris:

“I am heartbroken by the passing of Samuel Harris, a truly extraordinary man whose life and legacy have left an incredible mark on our community.

“Sam was not only a Holocaust survivor, but a teacher, a mentor and a friend to so many of us across the North Shore. I feel incredibly fortunate to have known him and to have witnessed firsthand his unwavering commitment to educating others and standing up to hate. Every time Sam shared his story, he reminded us of both the fragility of humanity and the strength of the human spirit.

“Despite all that he endured, Sam led with kindness, humility and a lasting sense of hope. He had a unique ability to connect with people – especially young people – and inspire them to lead with empathy and courage. His work leading the Illinois Holocaust Museum helped shape generations of students and families, including many in the communities I represent.

“Sam’s message was always clear: we each have a responsibility to speak out against injustice and to care for one another. That message will stay with me, and with so many others, for years to come.

“My heart is with his family and with all who were touched by his life. May his memory be an enduring comfort and continued source of inspiration for us all.”
